Our History 历史
Founded in 2004 and officially renamed in 2005, the Women Artists Association (Singapore) (WAA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to uniting women artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering cross-cultural exchange, and promoting artistic excellence. Under the leadership of founding president Ms. Lim Sue Luan, the Association has grown to over 150 members across various ethnicities and artistic disciplines.
Since its inception, WAA has provided a platform for members to showcase their creativity through exhibitions, forums, and collaborative projects, both locally and abroad. Notable milestones include the Spring Breeze over Singapore Art Exhibition 2014, the Truth, Goodness and Beauty International Women’s Day Art Exhibition (2018), and the Singapore Bicentennial International Women Artists Exhibition (2019), which brought together artists from Singapore, Asia, and beyond.
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted physical gatherings, WAA swiftly adapted by moving activities online. In 2020, an online charity art sale in collaboration with Nanyang Calligraphy Centre raised over USD 83,000 for the Courage Fund, followed by the International Women Artists Truth, Goodness and Beauty Online Art Exhibition in 2021.
In recent years, WAA has expanded its reach with exhibitions such as Gorgeous Transformation at ION Orchard and Finding Miracles Through Art in Phnom Penh, alongside participation in Singapore’s Reunion Spring festival and Racial Harmony Day celebrations. In 2023, WAA’s collaborative projects at Haw Par Villa set national records for the Largest Hand-Painted Styrofoam Collage and Largest Mass Clapping Yoga.
Today, WAA continues to serve as a vibrant hub for women artists — empowering members to share their voices, bridge cultures, and contribute to the community through art.
